This week’s AHL Simulation of the Week has us visiting Chicago, Illinois. The Wolves hold onto the seventh seed in the Western Conference but only one point separates them from the 11th place Rockford IceHogs. Meanwhile, the Toronto Marlies comfortably hold onto the third seed in the Conference with a six point cushion over their division rivals, the Rochester Americans. With every point being so important, winning this match will help both teams in the long-run.
The puck drops at 7:30 CT.
The Marlies proved to be the stronger side as they put a dent in the Wolves’ playoff hopes, leaving the Windy City with a comfortable 3-1 win. The scoring began early in the first when center Joe Colborne slotted one past goaltender Matt Climie. He would allow two more goals in the second as winger Jerry D’Amigo and defenseman Paul Ranger would score within 65 seconds of each other. Darren Haydar would breathe some life into the Wolves when he ruined the potential Marlies' shut-out. Unfortunately, the brief change in momentum would not be enough to produce a comeback.
For his efforts in the loss, Haydar would be named the game’s Third Star while D’Amigo would earn Second Star honors with his game-winning goal. Although his shut-out attempt was thwarted in the third period, 26 saves were enough for Jussi Rynnas to be named the game’s First Star.
