The search to find the best FIFA 12 gamer in England continued at Fulham in the next instalment of the Pro Player Challenge.
About 15 young Fulham academy trainees over ran the Dugout in the morning playing FIFA 12 after their training session and it was hard work kicking them out for the main event!
As usual, we had four first teamers vying for the title of FIFA King at Fulham: Bobby Zamora, Dickson Etuhu, Mathew Briggs and Mousa Dembele.
With the fixtures agreed, Bobby (Man City) took on Mousa (Man Utd) in the first semi final. It was an action packed first half with Mousa scoring with Vidic of all people in the 9th minute before Bobby clawed back through a Kompany strike.
It was 2-1 to Mousa with a trademark Rooney effort just on half time and it was to be the final score line too with Mousa booking a place in the final and Bobby storming out of the Dugout!
"The button configuration was a little different to what I was told maybe, but I'm out so never mind. I think (it was Dembele), he's a crafty little thing so he's done it in the past as well so it doesn't surprise me", said Bobby Zamora.
Semi Final 2 was Dickson Etuhu (Barcelona) versus huge FIFA gamer and big tip for the trophy, Mathew Briggs playing as Man United.
After a slow 90 minutes which ended with a brilliant save by Etuhu to force extra time, it was Briggs with two strikes in the 97th and 101st minutes to win 2-0.
Dickson Etuhu said after the game, "I thought I was better than I am, so I think that's why I gave him those two goals."
So to the final, Briggs dominated possession early and even had a couple of one on ones but each time he tried a delicate chip shot! And Mousa Dembele made him pay with a David Villa strike in the 65th. Briggs hit back though under growing pressure from Etuhu who was heckling from the side, with a Rooney goal in the 76th. We needed extra time to settle this one.
And the youngster Briggs was down to ten men in the 97th with a straight red for Chris Smalling. Dembele couldn’t take advantage though as Brigg’s scored an amazing Rooney strike on 100 minutes leaving Dembele little time to force penalties.
Afterwards Mathew proclaimed, “Finally...I'm FIFA King!"
"I think FIFA 12 is much harder this year and I think it's more realistic".
Congratulations to Mathew who was a worthy winner of the first Fulham Pro Player Tournament. Click below to view our special Flickr gallery.
